12/14/2024. We’re proud to share that Malama Ka’u Foundation sponsored the first-ever Taro Festival in Pahala—our Founder’s hometown on the Big Island of Hawaii. As our first sponsorship as a 501(c)3 nonprofit, we chose this event for its deep cultural significance.
Kalo (taro) is more than a staple sustenance for Hawaiians—it is life, family, and connection to the ‘aina. As our elder sibling in Hawaiian genealogy, kalo reminds us to care for the land and each other.
Our logo reflects all that is significant in Ka’u: Madame Pele offers kalo, symbolizing sustenance, heritage, and unity, with her hair resembling hala leaves—an homage to Pahala’s name.
We’re looking forward to sponsoring more events that uplift our Ka’u community.
